Community Resilience Center
Avalon Health Center
6818 Avalon Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90003
St. John’s Community Health is embarking on a journey to build a “community resilience center” in South LA. The new facility will be right next to our Avalon clinic, transforming this location to the Avalon Health Access and Resilience Center. We want to make sure that we are meeting your community’s needs! This past June, St. John’s hosted three public meetings to present the project concept and center design to community members. Across all meetings, over 150 people attended and shared their input and questions about the design and planned services. We thank all attendees for your thoughtful feedback and time. Your support is crucial to our success! Check out the presentation shared and suggestions from the community below.
What is a Community Resilience Center?
A community resilience center, or CRC, is a location that provides a safe space for community members to gather, access resources, and organize during climate and public health emergencies like heatwaves, wildfires, and earthquakes.
What services are offered at a Community Resilience Center?
Our CRC will have physical spaces to protect from the elements, such as cooling areas with shade and misters. Since the location is close to our Avalon Clinic, there is easy access to health and social services. We’ll also offer community education and workforce training on climate and emergency preparedness.
The Avalon Health Access and Resilience Center is supported by the California Strategic Grown Council’s Transformative Climate Communities Program in partnership with California Department of Conservation.
