🚨 REPORTING HATE CRIMES & INCIDENTS

If you or someone you know is targeted because of race, immigration status, gender identity, or language — this may be a hate incident or crime.

📚 Learn how to identify and safely report hate-based acts during our weekly sessions.

YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS

✅ You have the right to remain silent
You don’t have to answer questions about your immigration status. Say: “I am exercising my right to remain silent.”

✅ You have the right to refuse entry without a judicial warrant
Do not open the door unless an officer presents a valid judicial warrant signed by a judge. Ask to see it through a window or under the door.

✅ You have the right to speak to a lawyer
Do not sign anything without talking to an attorney.

✅ Carry important documents
Keep a Know Your Rights card and a lawyer’s contact info with you. Store vital documents like birth certificates in a safe place.

✅ If there’s an arrest or raid                                   

·         Stay calm — don’t run, resist, or argue

·         Keep hands visible

·         Ask for a lawyer and stay silent

·         Record incident details if possible

Si usted o alguien que conoce es atacado por su raza, estatus migratorio, identidad de género o idioma, esto podría ser un incidente o crimen de odio.

SUS DERECHOS CONSTITUCIONALES

✅ Tiene derecho a permanecer en silencio
No tiene que responder preguntas sobre su estatus migratorio. Diga: “Estoy ejerciendo mi derecho a permanecer en silencio.”

✅ Tiene derecho a negar la entrada sin una orden judicial
No abra la puerta a menos que un oficial tenga una orden firmada por un juez. Pida verla por la ventana o debajo de la puerta.

✅ Tiene derecho a hablar con un abogado
No firme nada sin antes hablar con un abogado.

✅ Lleve documentos importantes
Guarde una tarjeta de “Conozca sus Derechos” e información de contacto de un abogado. Mantenga documentos importantes en un lugar seguro.

 ✅ En caso de arresto o redada                            

·         Mantenga la calma — no corra ni discuta

·         Mantenga sus manos visibles

·         Pida un abogado y guarde silencio

·         Anote los detalles si es posible
