Los Angeles – Ahead of Inauguration Day on January 20, today St. John’s Community Health – a network of community health centers providing free and low-cost health care in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, and the Coachella Valley – released a statement about the shift in presidential and Congressional power as it relates to health care:
“While the incoming administration says they plan to gut Medicaid, it is legally and logistically impossible for them to take away people’s health care as easily or quickly as they would like us to believe,” said Jim Mangia, president and CEO of St. John’s Community Health. “Of all the issues the president and Congress could choose to focus on, prioritizing cutting health care access for tens of millions of people is one of the most cruel and counterproductive.
“Medicaid doesn’t just impact a lot of people – it’s a well-liked program, and many would like to see it expand. Now is the moment for community health centers and labor unions to be joining forces – to protect the wellbeing of marginalized people, workers, and everyone.”
