What is an External Referral?
If your doctor refers you to a specialist outside of St. John’s, your referral is sent to your health plan for approval.

πŸ‘‰ If you HAVE insurance (Medi-Cal, Medicare, or a Health Plan):

β€’ You’ll get a text message from our referral team with the specialist’s info
β€’ You’ll receive an authorization letter in the mail by your health plan within 7–14 business days
β€’ Once approved, the County Appointment Scheduling Center (ASC) will call you to schedule your appointment

β€’ Once approved, the County Appointment Scheduling Center (ASC) will call you to schedule
β€’ ⏳ This may take several weeks, depending on availability
