📨 EXTERNAL REFERRALS

What is an External Referral?
If your doctor refers you to a specialist outside of St. John’s, your referral is sent to your health plan for approval.

👉 If you HAVE insurance (Medi-Cal, Medicare, or a Health Plan):

• You’ll get a text message from our referral team with the specialist’s info
• You’ll receive an authorization letter in the mail within 7–14 business days
• Once received, call the specialist to schedule your appointment

👉 If you DO NOT have insurance:

• Once approved, the County Appointment Scheduling Center (ASC) will call you to schedule
• ⏳ This may take several weeks, depending on availability

Need an Interpreter for Your Appointment?
Interpreter Services are FREE if you have Medi-Cal, Medicare, or health insurance.
