π¨ EXTERNAL REFERRALS
What is an External Referral?
If your doctor refers you to a specialist outside of St. Johnβs, your referral is sent to your health plan for approval.
π If you HAVE insurance (Medi-Cal, Medicare, or a Health Plan):
β’ Youβll get a text message from our referral team with the specialistβs info
β’ Youβll receive an authorization letter in the mail by your health plan within 7β14 business days
β’ Once approved, the County Appointment Scheduling Center (ASC) will call you to schedule your appointment
π If you DO NOT have insurance:
β’ Once approved, the County Appointment Scheduling Center (ASC) will call you to schedule
β’ β³ This may take several weeks, depending on availability
